THREE-WAY TIE AT THE TOP – Future Stars impressive in victory

A 1-0 victory by Serbian White Eagles over league-leading Scarborough and a 2-0 default win by Toronto Falcons over Hamilton City, created a three-way tie on points at the top of the standings in the Canadian Soccer League on Saturday, September 14 when two games were played and one was cancelled,. The mid-afternoon scheduled clash between Toronto Falcons and Hamilton City was cancelled and ruled to be a 2-0 default victory in favour of the Falcons when City players failed to arrive at the stadium on time. Spanish Future Stars recorded its first victory of the season in the late game, two late goals for a 2-0 defeat of Unity FC,

Scarborough remains on top with a superior goal average following the well=played even contest with Serbian White Eagles, the match scoreless until 67 minutes when Danilo Bakoc struck the only goal to lift the White Eagles back in contention in its league title bid after recording just one win in its last three outings. A drive deflected by Scarborough goalkeeper Rodolfo Toledo was driven into the net from eight yards by Bakoc, a recently re-signed midfielder.

Spanish Future Stars have struggled for points throughout nine games played in their inaugural CSL season, but were impressive most of the match against Unity FC with forwards Jordan Bermudez and Alan Gonzalez coming close throughout what appeared to be a scoreless encounter until late in the second half when Bermudez found the net with a drive inside the box at the 86th minute mark, a Future Stars a 1-0 lead. Nelson Amaya then struck for Future Stars two minutes later, a spectacular attempt from 40 yards from out on the left wing. The ball dipped just under the bar, a 2-0 result at the final whistle.

The CSL schedule resumes at Centennial Stadium on Sunday, September 22 with Spanish Future Stars vs Toronto Falcons at 2 pm, Hamilton City 1 vs Serbian White Eagles at 4 pm and Scarborough vs Unity FC at 6.

The league has announced revised venue details for the CSL Championship playoff games for the top four teams at the conclusion of the regular season schedule. The semi-finals and championship final will be played at Esther Shiner Stadium with the two semifinal games at 2 pm and 4 pm on Sunday, October 6 and the CSL Championship Final will be played on Sunday, October 13 at 3 pm.
