17 Jul 2022

There were two games played in the Canadian Soccer League Saturday, with Scarborough SC scoring a decisive 3-0 victory over Toronto Falcons to move to the top of the standings, while Serbian White Eagles continued its recent winning form to defeat York Regions Shooters 2-1.  A third game, BGHC 1 vs Continentals FC scheduled mid-afternoon, was postponed.

Forward Milos Scepanovic opened the scoring for Scarborough from a free kick at 12 minutes and Gonzalo Matias Cabrera Celis increased the lead to 2-0 at the 31st minute mark. The goal resulted from  a rebound when a Falcons’ goalkeeper Vasyl Shpuk clearance resulted in a rebound off the Scarborough forward. It was 2-0 at the break and Scarborough continued to press in the second half until midfielder Neven Radakovic struck for a 3-0 lead at 56 minutes.

Toronto Falcons had few opportunities to find the net until substitute midfielder Oleh Kivalo took a late pass eight yards out but his attempt was saved by Scarborough goalkeeper Christan Moraldo. It was 3-0 at the final whistle.

Scarborough leaps into the top position in the standings with a 3-0-4 WLT record for 13 points while unbeaten in regular season games since 2020. Toronto Falcons are at 1-1-3 and six points in fifth position.

Serbian White Eagles’ forward Vladimir Strizovic opened the scoring at the 23rd minute against York Region Shooters, lifting the ball over the Shooters’ defence and out of reach of goalkeeper Daniel Gosciniak. It was 1-0 at the interval following an even first half. Strizovic also struck the second goal to lift Serbian White Eagles to a 2-0 lead at the 49th minute. York Region cut the lead to 2-1 at 82 minutes with a goal by forward Mahmoud Mehdi and Mehdi almost scored an equalizer with a strong drive  from 20 yards on the right wing just before the final whistle, but the ball skimmed the left post with Serbian White Eagles goalkeeper Dan Pelc well beaten.

Serbian White Eagles are now four games without a loss and second in the table with a 3-1-3 record for 12 points, while York Region Shooters drop to third in the standings with a 3-2-2 record for 11 points.

Games will return to Centennial Stadium in Toronto’s west end next Saturday, July 23 at 2 pm
