GONZALES STRIKES FOUR FOR LEAGUE LEADING SCARBOROUGH
Hamilton City defeated Unity FC 3-1 in a hard fought encounter, the opening game of three in the Canadian Soccer League at the Ford Centennial Stadium Sunday, August 25. This was followed by a one-sided10-0 route by Scarborough over Spanish Future Stars, and In a well-played end to end late game, Serbian White Eagles scored late in the game for a 1-1 draw with Toronto Falcons.
Midfielder Luan Cortez opened the scoring for Hamilton City with a drive from outside the box at the 45th minute mark, Amarildo Kozell made it 2-0 at 80 minutes and midfielder Maksim Maric increased the lead to 3-0 six minutes later, breaking in from the left wing for a ground shot from 15 yards inside the left post.
The game was held up for 17 minutes at the 70th minute mark when the physical tone of the match led to an altercation between Unity’s Thiago Cezar and Hamilton City defender Ulade Bubnjevic. Both players were shown the red card for Violent Conduct by referee Jurii Ponomarov. Felipe Cezar struck the consolation goal at 90 minutes for Unity, a 3-1 result and second win of the regular season for Hamilton City.
Matias Gonzales led the way with two goals in each half for Scarborough against Spanish Future Stars, with singles from Amador Torres, Devroy Gray, Edy Amadeo, Oleksanolr Kotsuiba, Ramsey Torizos, and Junior Santana. It was 4-0 at the break. It was Scarborough’s sixth win in the regular season and the Toronto east-side team leads the standings by three points ahead of the improving Toronto Falcons in second and Serbian White Eagles having slipped to third place.
It was end to end throughout between Toronto Falcons and Serbian White Eagles with the Falcons taking the lead off a penalty kick following a hand ball in the Serbian White Eagles’ box and which was converted by Nazar Slobodian at the 72nd mark. Serbian White Eagles tied the game eight minutes later when midfielder Nikola Timotijevic headed into the net from a cross from the right wing well out of reach of Falcons’ goalkeeper Anatollii Starushehenko.
Games in the Canadian Soccer League resume at the Ford Centennial Stadium on Saturday, September 7 when Serbian White Eagles are at home to Spanish Future Stars, a 2 pm kickoff, Hamilton City will visit to meet Scarborough at 4 pm and Unity FC are at home to Toronto Falcons in the late game at 6 pm.
