FC Vorkuta played Canadian Soccer League – 2018 season opener away vs FC Ukraine United – league and playoff champions of Canadian Soccer League 2nd division – 2017.

The game has started with FC Vorkuta attacks but unfortunately they did not result in scored goal. On the 30th minute FC Ukraine United earned a free kick. A cross into the box hit the post and Vasyl Chornyi had an easy rebound into the wide open corner. 1:0 for the hosting team.

For the next few minutes FC Vorkuta players were trying to get back to its same attacking style of play and on 43rd minute our forward Oleksandr Lakusta strikes a very important goal after finding a low pass in the box, Oleksandr turn and drives the ball into the far corner with powerful left foot shot. 1:1 after the first half.

The course of the game did not change in the 2nd half: FC Vorkuta players kept attacking while FC Ukraine United players were relying on long balls and counter attacks. However, these long balls did not cause any big problems as they were getting intercepted by our defenders.

One of the key moments of the game happened on the 70th minute when a break-through pass found FC Ukraine United’s striker one-on-one with our goalie Oleksandr Musienko who made a fantastic save keeping his team in the game.

The game was decided on the 77th minute when our right midfielder Serhii Ursulenko was tripped in the penalty box by FC Ukraine United’s captain – Mykhailo Gurka. FC Vorkuta’s captain – Oleh Kerchu made no mistake from the spot.

The players of hosting teams went attacking trying to tie the game but the coaching team of FC Vorkuta made some substitutions and changes in team formation that easily kept the winning score safe from any danger.

2:1 away win and our team is atop of the league after the first game of the season.

FC Vorkuta’s players and management wants to thank all our supporters for coming to the game and cheer for us. It really means a lot to us and we share this victory with you.
